Delhi Itinerary for 2 Days: A Smart First-Timer’s Plan
Quick answer: Two days is short, but it is enough to get a memorable first taste of Delhi. The trick is not to see everything. Keep each day geographically coherent and build one experience around Old Delhi, then balance it with the grand avenues and quieter heritage of New Delhi and South Delhi.
Day 1: Old Delhi and the heart of the city
7:30–8:30 AM — Start early. Old Delhi is at its most interesting before the midday crush. Begin around Jama Masjid and the lanes of the old city.
9:00–11:30 AM — Chandni Chowk and Old Delhi food. Wander through the market lanes and build breakfast or a progressive food crawl around several small stops rather than a single long meal.
11:30 AM–1:00 PM — Red Fort. Spend enough time to appreciate the scale and history instead of racing through it.
Lunch — Old Delhi. Keep lunch flexible and local.
4:00–6:00 PM — New Delhi. Head towards Connaught Place or Central Delhi. A short rest break in the late afternoon is worth it.
Evening — India Gate / central Delhi. End outdoors if the weather is comfortable, then have dinner around Connaught Place or another area close to where you are staying.
Day 2: Monuments and a slower Delhi
8:00–10:00 AM — Humayun’s Tomb. Give yourself time to explore the complex and surrounding gardens.
Late morning — Lodhi Garden or a relaxed café stop. This is deliberately slower than Day 1.
2:00–4:00 PM — Qutub Minar / Mehrauli. Pair the monument with the surrounding historical landscape if your energy is good.
5:00 PM onward — choose your mood. South Delhi for dinner and neighbourhood life, a spiritual experience, a sunset plan, or an early night before your next destination.
Smart 2-day planning tips
- Do not put Old Delhi, Qutub Minar and Aerocity into one half-day.
- Keep your busiest walking day first if you are adjusting to Delhi.
- Book timed attractions where required and check official opening information close to the visit.
- Leave at least one flexible meal slot each day.
