Delhi Airport to City Guide: Metro, Taxi and What to Do After Landing
Quick answer: Delhi airport can feel complicated on a first arrival because the terminal you land at changes the best transport option. The simplest rule is: identify your terminal first, then choose Metro or a cab based on where you are staying and how much luggage you have.
First: check which terminal you are using
Delhi Airport operates T1, T2 and T3. Your terminal matters because transport access and pickup points differ. The airport’s official site currently lists 24/7 app-based cab and taxi services at all three terminals.
Metro options
T3 / IGI Airport: the Airport Express is the obvious rail connection towards New Delhi and onward city connections. DMRC’s current Airport Express fare table lists stations including New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Aerocity, IGI Airport, Dwarka Sector 21 and Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.
T1: Terminal 1-IGI Airport is served by the Magenta Line, so the regular Delhi Metro network can be useful depending on your destination.
Taxi and app cabs
Delhi Airport currently lists app-based cabs and prepaid/fixed-rate taxi options at T1, T2 and T3. Pickup locations vary by terminal; follow the airport signs rather than accepting a ride from someone who approaches you inside the terminal. See the official airport transport guide.
What should you do immediately after landing?
- Connect to mobile data or airport Wi-Fi.
- Exchange only the amount of cash you need immediately if you are still deciding how you will pay.
- Confirm your hotel address and phone number before leaving the terminal.
- Choose your transport before walking outside the terminal pickup zone.
- Keep your phone and passport secure during the transfer.
Metro or cab: which should you choose?
| Choose | When |
|---|---|
| Metro | You want speed and predictable travel, have manageable luggage and are comfortable navigating stations. |
| Cab | You are tired, have large bags, are arriving late, or your hotel is far from a station. |
| Taxi | You prefer a conventional airport transfer and want a clearly identified pickup service. |
Get checked in, drink some water, reset, then start exploring.
